In 1996, scientists from the University of Cologne, the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne, teachers, students and others founded KölnPUB – Public and Biotechnology – as a registered association. Through workshops, courses, lectures and other events, KölnPUB is devoted to making science available to the public.
Our own teaching laboratory offers state of the art equipment for teaching molecular methods and basic techniques of biotechnology and genetic engineering. A team of experienced and dedicated molecular biologists is responsible for various training courses ranging from beginners’ to advanced levels. Courses are offered for:
At the KölnPUB teaching laboratory, everyone can be a scientist. Just get a labcoat and start! We offer classic experiments such as the isolation of DNA from fruit and vegetables or plasmid purification and transformation as well as PCR-based experiments such as the genetic fingerprint.
Course participants come from many cities within the state of Northrhine-Westphalia. Since the year 2000, more than 4000 visitors have taken part in one of our frequently offered courses.
